Graduation Celebrations
Graduation days are upon us! Pre-schoolers, middle-schoolers, high-school and college seniors - students of all ages are graduating and moving on to the next stage of their academic or professional careers. It's a time for celebration and acknowledging our graduates for their hard-work and dedication. And there are so many different ways to celebrate.
When our daughter graduated from high-school last year and headed to the University of Arizona, my husband and I threw her a big BBQ with all her family and friends. It was such a fun afternoon and she, and those closest to her, appreciated the opportunity to celebrate her success together. Plus she went away to school with lots of pictures to remind her of home.
Here at Sputnik Sweets we think no celebration is complete without cupcakes. So we're offering a graduation party special - buy two dozen graduation cupcakes and get a dozen for free! Treat your grad to something extra special.
How will you celebrate for your grad? Big party? Intimate dinner with family? Water slides? Let us know how you will celebrate and recognize this great accomplishment. Let us know!
If you're looking for ideas, Celebrations has some cool grad party ideas at http://www.celebrations.com/graduationparty. They have some awesome food and drink recipes, like the Citrus Sorbet Float Mocktail, as well as gift ideas and fun party tips, like ice-cream bars and good luck note jars.
Congratulations Graduates!

Cupcakes in Ice-cream Cones?!?!
Here we are in the middle of Spring. This is my favorite time of year because there are so many events going on - birthday parties, graduations, baseball, weddings, etc. - that, I think, require taking a look at great new cupcake ideas. Here at Sputnik Sweets we always appreciate a great, and fun, new way to serve up cupcakes.
Just yesterday I came across this super-fun idea: cupcakes in ice-cream cones! Using regular-sized and mini-sized cupcakes, ice-cream cones and a variety of toppings you can decorate cupcakes to look like your favorite ice-cream cone. These are a great idea for a child's birthday party. Let the birthday girl or boy and guests make their own with different frosting flavors, colors and candy sprinkles to top them off. The kids will love it! It's really easy and is sure to be the favorite part of your next party.
Check out the video below on how to make these playful "cones" and let the party begin.
Happy decorating!

Mother's Day
Hi all!
I'm so excited to report that, since my first post, we finally have a company logo! We have used a variety of images and colors in the past trying to find something that we felt was appropriate. It took a long time to find something we thought was simple and fun; something that represented us. We are very pleased with it and would love your feedback.
So Mother's Day is almost here and we have been super busy. Thank you to everyone for all your Mother's Day orders! I think moms all around Sacramento are going to be very happy this Mother's Day.
I've heard that what mom's like best for Mother's Day - even better than jewelry - is homemade gifts. So for those of you doing DIY baking this Mother's Day, please check out Wilton at www.wilton.com/cupcakes. Wilton is a great place for baking supplies and ideas, so if you're looking for a special Mother's Day cupcake decoration check out Wilton's Crowning Touch cupcakes (pictured) at http://www.wilton.com/idea/Crowning-Touch-Cupcakes. It's a special way to let mom be Queen For A Day.
On behalf of Sputnik Sweets I want to wish you and yours a very happy Mother's Day!

Welcome to the Sweet Spot!
Welcome to the Sweet Spot, the place for everything cupcake! I’m Suzi, owner and Creative Director for Sputnik Sweets, a Sacramento, home-based bakery providing the finest quality, “outta this world” gourmet cupcakes on the planet.
I started Sputnik Sweets in 2010 after years of just playing around with different cupcake recipes, flavors and decorations and taking them as dessert to dinner parties and bar-b-ques and other family gatherings. Soon special requests were being made for me to make cupcakes anytime there was an event; didn’t matter what was the event, friends and family just seemed to love my cupcakes. Then I started receiving requests to make them so family and friends could give them as gifts. Before I knew it my husband and I were putting together a business plan, I quit my corporate day job, and Sputnik Sweets was born in my kitchen!
Here at the Sweet Spot I’ll be talking about all that is wonderful in the world of cupcakes. I’ll keep you up to speed on everything new and happening with Sputnik Sweets – new flavors, promotions, special events, etc. I’ll share everything I know (except our secret recipes) and can find about cupcakes that is fun and interesting – baking tips, decorating, flavors, photos, and fun facts.
But I don’t want to be the only one doing all the talking. Because you’re here I imagine you share my love of cupcakes, so I want to hear from you. I want to know your thoughts and opinions, what you know and what you love about cupcakes. Do you have a favorite recipe? Have you encountered a cupcake flavor you never thought of but fell in love with? Do you have pictures? Interesting tidbits of information? I can’t wait to hear about it!
Thank you for visiting – come back soon and often. J
